Sign your students up for our Mind-Bending Story Competition

The winner earns a free visit for the entire class, and we’ll turn the story into reality at the Museum!

We believe that curiosity and out-of-the-box thinking are at the heart of every great story.

To encourage young storytellers, we’re once again inviting local schools to take part in our writing competition.

Last year’s challenge brought us incredible stories and so much fun, and we can’t wait to see what your students create this year!

Who can join?

Students in year groups 3-6.

Any student in these age groups who enjoys writing and wants to join the competition is welcome to participate.

What’s the theme?

An original short story should be inspired by mind-bending optical illusions. From flying into an infinity portal to growing or shrinking in an instant, our exhibits are a perfect setting!

What happens to the winning story?

The writer of the winning story earns a free visit to the Museum for their entire class.
But that’s not all! We’ll also:

Feature it on our social media channels to encourage young writers!

Bring the story to life as an animation in one of our exhibits.

Display the story in the Museum for everyone to read.

How did last year’s competition go?

Our Mind-bending Story Competition was a great way to bring local schools and students together. The winning story was turned into an animation in the Museum, and when the winning class visited, they had the opportunity to experience the world their own classmate created in our Walk in Kaleidoscope!

Who submits the stories?

Teachers will collect and submit entries once the competition opens in 2026. Keep an eye on your inbox – we’ll send all the important details in January. Parents are welcome to submit their child’s story, too. Full instructions will be available on this webpage mid-January.
